The Process

I. Apply for REGISTRATION to the FAA
Send:

Application for Registration (form 8050.1, a 3-part form, not available on the internet) with a
BILL OF SALE or an
AFFIDAVIT of OWNERSHIP
$5.00 check or cash to:

FAA-Aircraft Registry
Mike Monroney Aeronautical Center,
Po Box 25504
Oklahoma City, OK. 73125

Wait for your “hard card” to come back to you in the mail.
Schedule an appointment with a DAR. Call your FSDO to find one.
Query “FSDO” on the FAA.gov website and find yours in your state.


Things the applicant (you) need to bring for airworthiness certification.

1. Program Letter If your need the training operating limitation then add this line to your program letter:

I will also be conducting flight training in the aircraft until January 31, 2010.

2. Application for Airworthiness (8130-6)
3. Your Registration for your PPC, received back from the FAA registry
4. Weight and Loading (High attach point or Low/outrigger arm attach point)
5. Image of the ppc, 3 views
6. Log books for airframe, and engine (and chute would be good but not required).
7. Condition Inspection DATED (the day of your inspection or the day before)
8. PPC,cleaned and placarded (see markings).

4+ Markings you must display:

1. Passenger Warning (visible to passengers getting into aircraft.):
“This aircraft is an experimental light sport aircraft and not certified by the FAA and does not comply with the Federal Safety regulations for Standard Aircraft.”

2. DATA Plate-a FIREPROOF plate, engraved with at least the following:
Manufacturer name
Model number/name
Serial number

3. The word: Experimental-2” high, visible to passengers getting into aircraft.

4. N-Number - 3” high, roman block characters, contrasting color to background, not hidden behind frame parts, HORIZONTAL, on a structural part of aircraft (adding a plate is ok).

4+. Mark all your controls and switches as to what they operate and how they operate.
